History
The Institute of Social Sciences was founded on February 20, 1983, in accordance with Law No. 2547. It initially began its operations offering graduate programs in the fields of Turkish Language and Literature, History, Sociology, and Geography.
Early Development:
- 1994: The Institute expanded its academic offerings by introducing the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies.
- 1998: The Department of Islamic History and Arts was established.
- 1999: The Department of Basic Islamic Studies was added.
- 2003: The Department of Communication Studies was created, encompassing the subfields of Radio, TV, and Cinema.
- 2009: The Institute further expanded with the establishment of the Department of Business Administration, Department of Music, and Department of Primary Education Religious Culture and Ethics Education.
Continued Growth and Expansion:
- 2012: The Department of Sociology was introduced, along with new programs in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management.
- 2013: The Institute launched the Department of Health Management, Department of Occupational Health and Safety, Department of Disaster and Crisis Management, and Department of Technology and Information Management.
- 2014: The Department of Health Management and Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management were further developed.
- 2016: The Department of Public Administration was established.
- 2017: The Department of Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures was added to the Institute.
- 2019: The Department of Economics was created.
Recent Developments:
- 2020: The Finance (thesis-based Master’s program) was introduced.
- 2021: The Finance (non-thesis Master’s program) and Economics (Doctoral program) were launched.
Current Structure:
The Institute of Social Sciences now offers graduate programs in 25 academic departments. These include:
- 10 departments offering both Master’s and Doctoral programs.
- 10 departments offering thesis-based Master’s programs.
- 5 departments offering non-thesis Master’s programs.
As of the 2020-2021 academic year, the Institute is educating a total of 1,403 students, comprising:
- 1,166 students in Master's programs.
- 237 students in Doctoral programs.
The Institute has continuously expanded and diversified its academic offerings, maintaining a dynamic and evolving presence in the field of social sciences education.
